    Hi XXX,

I have regraded your speech. According to the grading criteria, I did not find many problems of my previous judgment. The only thing I can change is that I think your delivery and eye contact is better than I thought last time. With this adjustment, your grade for the speech will be changed from a C minus (72) to C (75).

I will specifically talk with you about the organization of the speech next Tuesday. They are not coherent either in your outline or in your presentation. That's what you should really improve in the next project. Some other problems, such as attention-getter, transitions, preview, review, new info in the conclusion, are pointed out in my comments on your grading sheets and the outline.

I will not add the points of your outline deficiencies back. You said you didn't have the packet by the time you were giving the speech so you couldn't check your outline against the grading check list. However, I would say, first, it is your responsibility to have the packet prepared. Even it's not available in the bookstore, you could always copy the pages needed from your classmates. Second, I talked about the outline in class and had a template in Elearning. I think there is enough information about the requirements.

Regarding the comparison between your grade and someone else's, I don't think it is a legitimate argument. First, I don't remember there's anybody in our class who didn't turn in an outline at all. It could be a really lousy one, though. Second, the 65 he/she got (which is the numerical equivalant to D) is probably because of outline problems, or missing bibliography (which, if I follow the criteria strictly, should result in a grade of 0). Thirdly, turning in an outline doesn't automatically guarantee you a higher grade than those who don't, let alone there are quite a few deficiencies in your outline.

I'm sorry about all the comments which make your speech look bad. This is the way I will help you to hone your communication skills in this class. As I said in the comments, you had pretty good delivery style. I'm sure you will do a way better job later with more attention on the preparation process.

Thanks for bringing the grade issue to me. I'm glad we could make things clearer. If there's any problem, just let me know. If you are still not comfortable with my grading, please contact Mrs. Nancy Street, who is our course supervisor. She would be happy to discuss this with you. (I will cc this mail to her too)

Now your overall grade of speech one is 69. I have already changed it in Elearning.

Have a good weekend! BTHO Arkansas!

Totally agree with you. In my past experience, I had to keep records of everything (grade of each exercise, attendation, class performance, exam grades, etc) just in case any of them could be the "evidence" one day. Around the end of the semester, there are aleady 2-3 (no more no less) students who are going to argue to increase their grades...
